If you haven’t seen the 2020 TRIPS post, read that first! This post goes over the planning of this specific trip in depth and my different thoughts on each part of the process.

Flights

Jess and I actually booked this flight on the same day as the Maui flight because we had been talking about Spain and a Scott’s Cheap Flights email came flying in!

What was pretty crazy about this one was that it was specifically for Seattle to Barcelona. Since I’m trying to transition to the American Express Membership Rewards points system, I wanted to use up as much of my Chase point as possible before downgrading by Chase Sapphire Reserve into a Chase another Freedom card. Since you need the CSR to hit the 1.5 CPP multiplier when redeeming for travel, I ended up booking this one for both of us and the total cost looked came out to be 68,802 points.

We didn’t upgrade this flight (American Airlines) for seat selection or checked bags, but since we both have the American Express platinum card ($200/year in airline incidental feeds), we planned to use that to cover any upgrade fees.
