If you haven’t seen the 2020 TRIPS post, read that first! This post goes over the planning of this specific trip in depth and my different thoughts on each part of the process.

This is what I’m expecting

Booking Flights

As a premium subscriber to Scott’s Cheap Flights, Jess got this email:

Seattle (SEA) to Maui (OGG) on a round trip, non-stop flight for $358

We had talked about Hawaii before, but it always seemed like a place that was out of reach to visit. This price was too good to pass up! Since we were both sitting on 100k+ Chase points, we knew we had to book with points, but only if we got at least 1.5 cents per point in value. We ended up adding on some seat selection upgrades (hence the extra cost)

$437.8 divided by 29,186 points * 100= 1.5 cents per point

I had seen Hawaii trips being booked for 20k points before, but at this point I think both of us were too excited to wait any longer and only save 9k in points. Within an hour of receiving the email, we had booked the flight.
